DIU - Calm, Quite and Beach!!!

Diu is a small town in the union territory of Daman and Diu, India. It is an island connected from Gujrat by bridges and ferry. Being 10th least populated district of India it is very nice place to visit if you are looking for a vacation at a less crowded place having beach along with peaceful and green environment. Since it was a Purtugese colony during 1539 to 1961 you can still witness Purtegese culture there.

Reaching Diu has multiple options:

1. By flight which directly takes you to Diu.
2. By train till Veraval and by road afterwards
3. Both local buses and taxis connect Diu with Veraval.

If you want to enjoy the view along side the road on the way to Diu and want to travel at your convenience the Taxi is better option. It takes INR 1000 to 2500 depending upon vehicle type and number of persons. Traveling time is approximately 1 hour. You can book taxi beforehand by searching for tour and travels online or you can book directly outside the railway station.

Diu offers a number of hotels to stay according to preferred location and pocket size. Since everyone will prefer to stay near beach, thus Kostamar Beach Resort, Radhika beach resort and Krishna beach resort are some of the good beach resorts near by Nagoa Beach. I stayed in Kostamar Beach resort and stay was satisfactory. Good thing was beach was just  acroos the road. Less expensive hotels are also available.

When it comes for things to do in Diu most preferred by me is sitting on the beach and doing activities like parasailing, jet skiing, banana boat, etc. Nagoa beach is the commercial beach and offers all these. If you want to spend peaceful time then you can go to Jalandhar beach. Other places to visit are:
  • Diu fort
  • Diu Museum
  • Sea shell museum
  • Naida caves
  • Gangeshwar Temple
  • Ghogla Beach
  • Sunset point

A number of sea food options are also worth exploring in Diu if you are a sea food lover. Many such restaurants are located along side the Nagoa beach.

For local traveling you can hire a taxi, auto or best option rent a bike. They charge INR 200 to 300 for a day. You can bargain depending upon number of days you will be renting. Since it is a less populated place therefore it's reall easy to roam around by yourself. You can feel the calmness of the place with a simple long drive on the bike, but do remember to carry your driving license!

Being a coastal area weather in Diu is moderate round the year. Usually its best to visit from October to March as temperature ranges from 15 to 30 degree Celsius. For rest of the month temperature is on higher side, reaching maximum of 36-37 degree Celsius. I visited there in May. It was little hot but tolerable, evenings were pleasant. Monsoon arrives in Diu by June and continues till September but it doesn't receive heavy rainfall as compared to adjoining state (Gujrat).

Visiting Diu takes 2 to 3 days maximum. So if you have more days in your hand and want to explore more places you can plan to visit Daman and Somnath along with Diu. Otherwise its a good weekend trip.

So pack your bags and enjoy the serenity of Diu!!!
